Grand Illusion -

What is real, are you real,
is this life real?
The song "Grand Illusion" emerged from the depth of these questions
after reading a book by Michael Talbot. "The Holograohic Universe".
Michaels own experiences trigged him into connecting the results from the
physicist David Bohm and the neurophysiologist Karl Pribram into a whole
new concept of reality. The movie "the 13:th floor" seems to be based on
this idea.
If you think of it, everything that you experience is the result of the
brain interpreting electrical signals from your senses. Already at the
reception point most of it is filtered out in order to speed up the
reception. From the little fragment that is actually reaching the brain your view
of the world is built up, by using memories and a conviction of how
thinghs ought to be, That's why optical illusions and hypnosis induced
instructions works as well as they do.
For exemple: imagine that you lift out the brain and place it in a
watertank. Then connect it to a computer that is simulating allyour
normal senses, like vision, hearing, touch, smell, taste senses of
movement, position in space and balance. Let the brain experience a
normal life and there's no way you could convince that brain that it's
just a brain in a watertank, it would believe that what it's
experiencing is all real. "Hell, I can fel the rubble in my hand, it
must be real..."... right :D Then, if you can feel the brain in the tank
with your fingers... is it real? ... or is that too an illusion?..
Anyway, those thoughts made me write this song.
